Why Hyphae?

The Hyphae group is named for the strands of mycorrhizal (fungal) networks that operate in forests to transfer nutrients. They have been called the “neural networks” of forests. After years of working in conservation and sustainability, we found that the idea of being the network within a living system to be an accurate metaphor for our role in sustainable systems. Great ideas, solutions, and resilience comes from everywhere. Fortifying our natural and societal fabrics is the goal of this consultancy – to be a partner in helping others share their strength.

Hyphae also taps into another core aspect of why we do this work. Many environmentalists and people who work on sustainability are moved by a deep love and wonder for our natural world. Our founder spent her childhood looking for bugs and exploring marshes. Learning that there are complex informational and resource networks in ecosystems only underscores that wonder in the magic of things we can never fully understand.

We would love to work with you on your wicked sustainability challenges. This is an imperfect world and we do not have all of the answers. We will help you to ask the right questions and work with you to build resilience in your communities.
